Children, Adolescents, Parents
Life can be so amazing but at times it can feel really hard too. That increases ten-fold when we are also worried about our little ones. Kids can have some really big feelings and sometimes they are more than we know how to handle. School phobia, difficulty getting along with peers or making friends, angry outbursts, and so many other things our children are dealing with can be hard to navigate. Are you getting called by school often? Have a child who just can’t sleep at night, has no friends and/or can’t communicate? COVID certainly didn’t help teach our kids how to socialize. Is your teen feeling anxious or down? Are they struggling in their friend groups and weighed down by all the stressors around them? Do you feel helpless? Do you feel like you just don’t know where to turn to help them? Is this affecting your family, your marriage? I can help, give me a call.
Stress, Anxiety, Depression
Sometimes we just feel overwhelmed. Sometimes the simplest task feels like too much. Perhaps you can’t seem to fit everything in, you just don’t’ seem to enjoy things like you used to or you overthink everything! It can be hard to look forward to tomorrow when today seems so difficult. Let’s sit down and make this easier for you. Together we can calm the storm, organize those thoughts, find the peace and get you on your way to a brighter tomorrow.
About Michelle
I have a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both New York and New Jersey with over 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, their parents, individuals and couples. I have worked in and directed partial hospitalization programs, residential treatment centers, school youth programs and clinics. I have run social skills, anger management, empowerment and peer groups and have helped parents, grandparents, foster parents, and guardians to find better solutions.
When I’m not in the office I enjoy being a Girl Scout Leader, Girl Scout Service Unit Manager, serving on the PTA Board, working as a Youth Group Coordinator and love to travel and find new adventures all of the time with my own kids.
I work from a strength-based perspective and incorporate play, art, cognitive behavioral and family therapy modalities into my practice. I would love to help. Let’s get together and make more of those positive moments occur so you and your family can experience how amazing life can be.

Psychotherapist
Do you want to help your young child regulate their emotions? Maybe you have tried to instill discipline but feel like this has created even more intense emotions and more distance between you and your teenage child. You feel defeated and want to throw in the towel. Do you find it hard to set boundaries in this digital age? Like many parents, perhaps you often wonder: What is typical teen behavior or a sign of underlying trouble? Many of us are worried about our children's mental health and unsure of how to help. Learning how to express and manage emotions in a way that works is essential for our child's well-being as well as our own. Let's face it, adolescents these days have to deal with many complex issues like social media, bullying, body shaming, and violence. As parents, our upbringing and traumatic life experiences inform how we parent. Sometimes it can feel like its hard to know how to stop the cycle of intergenerational trauma.
I am a licensed psychotherapist in New York and New Jersey. I can help you and your child in this journey by providing a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space. I use a collaborative approach, where you, your child, and I will work together to grow personally and improve relationships.
I specialize in working with adolescents with emotional and behavioral issues. I use play therapy, art, CBT, and DBT to teach children how to deal with unwanted emotions in a healthy way, learn positive coping skills, and emotion regulation. I also use parent-child interaction therapy to help strengthen the bond and attachment between the child and parent while guiding and coaching parents in real time. I am an eclectic therapist; I use different modalities to work with your specific needs. I use relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, guided imagery, and meditation to help my clients learn how to regulate their emotions. Those skills are helpful and effective for anxiety, stress, ADHD, anger, or oppositional defiance.
About Daphnée
After ten years of honorable service in the United States Army, I returned to New York to complete my education. I went on to complete my post-grad at Columbia University, where I earned a master's degree in social work. Growing up, I was surrounded by mentors and people I admired. These mentors have played an essential role in my life and have inspired me to dedicate my adult life to changing the trajectory of the lives of the people I work with. I have over ten years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and families in many capacities.
I use a combination of different therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Informed Care, and Narrative Therapy, to help people deal with symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other serious mental health diagnoses. I take a goal-oriented approach to help people fulfill their purpose-driven lives. My compassionate approach and authenticity facilitate an effortless rapport and a trusting therapeutic alliance.
I am fluent in English and Haitian Creole. I am at my happiest when taking care of my garden and many house plants. When not gardening, I enjoy hiking, cooking, reading, and spending time with my daughter.

I believe we all go through challenging periods and difficult experiences in our lives when we can feel stuck, scared, angry or isolated. During these times it can be particularly difficult to reach out and ask for help, and it often requires a great amount of courage to share these painful feelings with others. Regardless of what brings you to therapy, it is essential to have a strong and comfortable relationship with your therapist in order to feel safe enough to share your personal experiences.
I make it my goal to build a warm and supportive environment. Together we can discuss your current circumstances, and also explore how past experiences have shaped your identity.
I integrate psychodynamic, evidence-based, and creative approaches tailored to your needs. Everyone needs to feel seen and listened to in a meaningful way, and we all grow from alliances in which we feel safe and gently challenged. Let’s work together to unearth the roots of your suffering, and make positive, proactive changes in your life.

I specialize in working with adults who are in recovery from childhood trauma, or difficult relationships with parents, which can show up as an adult as struggles in interpersonal relationships, carrying a sense of inadequacy or shame, feeling unworthy of love, never feeling quite able to reach sufficiency, or feeling like even when you make it to a place of success you don't really belong there.
I also specialize in interpersonal psychotherapy, which helps people who struggle to form satisfying stable close relationships with other people, or who find vulnerability in relationships to be frightening, through safely exploring how this presents in the therapeutic relationship and finding creative ways to work through whatever might be making the connection difficult to create opportunities for more satisfying relationships.
I also provide insight-oriented work, which helps with making sense of our thinking or behavior. Many of us go through the world feel there is something inherently wrong with us, but insight-oriented work helps with making sense of our thinking and behavior to begin to recognize that it makes sense based on your life and experiences, thereby reducing shame and self-judgment, and providing opportunities for change.
I am originally from New Zealand and have also practiced in Japan and England. In addition to my private practice I also direct an outpatient mental health clinic, teach a university trauma course for graduate social work students, produce a psychotherapy podcast, and supervise and train psychotherapists. I have a Master's Degree in Social work from Fordham University and a Masters of Arts and Bachelor of Science from Otago University in New Zealand
